A scrub plane can be used efficiently for major stock removal. This style from zen toolworks equiped with a bi-metal iron that is secured with a metal cap. The blade is fit in slot with a very tight fit. You will need to wait for time after the wood is settled in your shop before any major adjustment. Adjust the slot prior the first use to make the blade fit. You will need a little patient on this, and you will be amazed on how the plane works afterwards. The blade is sharpened and honed out of the box. Be very careful when you handles it.

Summary: A great scrub plane
Comment: Another great plane from Zen Toolworks. This one is oak construciton, and to me takes on a more traditional look than his ebony ones. Make no mistake, this plane is elegant and beautiful in its own right.
The plane is useful upon receipt. It is sharp and cuts efficiently, no sharpening was required. This is a scrub plane designed to remove a lot of material quickly. It meets this task admirably.
I am very happy with this tool.
