This little wooden smooth plane is perfect for instrument maker working on his/her projects that involves hard to reach areas. The plane is made of a single piece of macassar ebony, very hard wood that often has beautiful grain configurations. The iron is not honed when the plane arrievs, you will need to hone the blade with you own prefered sharpening method. Do it slowly and a good quality honing jig is a must.

Summary: Another great plane from Zen Toolworks
Comment: This is another wonderful instrument plane from Zen Toolworks. It is a smoothing plane designed for instrument making, i.e. it has a flat sole and is small, albeit appropriately sized, for the task.
The tool is well made and functional upon receipt. The blade was sharp, and the tool cut efficiently right out of the box.
It is a combination of function and beauty in an elegantly simple and artful design. I am happy with my purchase
